A nation of shopkeepers ?

There has been much in the news lately about the state of the nation's high streets.First they were turning into clones, then we lost Woolworth's and other familiar names to the 'credit crunch'.
Now it seems that an increasing percentage of shops are lying empty for a combination of reasons...


The DAILY MAIL has an article on this trend, and there was also an item on BBC BREAKFAST yesterday morning.


There are particular problems in some towns...


How ghostly is your town ?
Arrange an alternative "ghost walk" (some cities like York and Edinburgh have these...), but instead of the site of hauntings, you could visit the old locations where famous old shops used to be: the Local Studies section of your local library will probably have books showing the old shops as they used to be...
Might be worth a quick trip into the CBD with some students to assess the state of your town centre...
