Temporary Places

I'm interested in the idea of places that only exist temporarily.

Glastonbury is an example of this: 170 000 people meeting together for a week, and then dispersing far and wide...
Thanks to Urban Photo Blog on Twitter for the tipoff to a feature on this tented city

It appears near Mecca to house the many thousands of pilgrims who are making the Hajj.
The Hajj is a pilgrimage (trip for religious reasons) which all Muslims are expected to make at least once in their lives.
Around 2.5 million people are expected in Saudi Arabia.
The logistics of feeding this many people and providing for their needs is immense.

Update
Thanks to David Rogers for his suggestion of the Occupy camps that have appeared in recent months as additional temporary places.
Thanks also to Angus Willson for the additional comment which talks about Operation Stack, and the resulting communities of haulage drivers that appear....

I suppose another example would be the lines of trucks in Australia during flood season when rivers are impassable...

We have a temoporary place in Kent where lengths of the M20 motorway (mainly between junctions 10 to 12) are closed to make home for thousands of HGVs on the occasions when the Channel-crossings are disrupted by poor industrial relations, bad weather or both.

Evidence of the settlement of this itinerant community includes the portaloos which suddenly appear on the hard shoulder of the motorway and the mobilisation of the local police force.

Once formed these temporary communities take a while to disperse causing disruption to the local road network.
